Maui suffered the biggest drop in hotel occupancy in the state in September, to only 56.8 percent. That was 20 percent below the 71.6 percent enjoyed in September 2007, but the occupancy decline was not quite as steep as the drop in head count (27 percent) or in airline seats (26 percent).
